What is the New York Stock Exchange or NYSE? |
|
Answer:
The New York Stock Exchange, or NYSE, is the world’s largest and liquid exchange group with a diverse offering of financial products and services. The NYSE began in 1792 when a group of stockbrokers and merchants signed the Buttonwood Agreement and quickly became a financial center. The physical buildings are located in New York with the NYSE trading floor located on Wall Street. Trading takes place in four rooms using a continuous auction format. The main building on Broad Street is a National Historic Landmark. In addition to the auction format, NYSE stocks can be traded using the electronic Hybrid Market. This change took place in January of 2007 and has quickly been embraced. Over 50% of all order flow reaches the trading floor electronically. The NYSE Composite Index reflects the value of the stocks traded at the New York Stock Exchange.
