Founded in 1898, the Chicago Butter and Egg Board eventually 


became the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in 1919. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange went public in December of 2000. The exchange then merged with the Chicago Board of Trade in July of 2007 and became CME Group.


March of 2008, the CME Group purchased the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) for a total sum of $8.9 billion in cash and stocks. CME Group is the largest and most diverse exchange in the world. CME Group offers various types of financial products which include futures and options based on interest rates, agricultural commodities, energy, equity indexes and foreign currency exchange. Other products offered include such investment products as real estate and weather. CME Group is traded under the stock symbol “CME” on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.
