What is Dental Insurance?

Answer:
Dental insurance is usually purchased independently
of other forms of health coverage.  It pays for dental visits and procedures required for oral health.  Usually, preventive visits to the dentist—such as semi-annual cleanings, x-rays, and fluoride treatments—are covered at 100%.  Most insureds pay nothing for these types of visits.  There are other procedures which dental insurance covers at least the majority… procedures like fillings, crowns, dentures etc.

It’s usually best to secure a group dental plan through your employer since coverage for expensive procedures tends to be covered in a more comprehensive fashion.  Cover through individually purchased dental plans for procedures like braces for the kids, for example, are hard to come by when it comes to individual plans.
