What is Collision Auto Insurance?

Answer:
Collision auto insurance, as its name suggests,
covers your car or truck if you collide with something.  For example, if you rear-end someone’s car, your liability coverage will pay for the damages to that person’s vehicle.

Your vehicle will be covered by your collision coverage (if you have it) minus your deductible.  Deductibles are usually available in increments of $250, and go up to over $1000.  The higher the deductible, the lower your insurance policy will cost.

Unlike liability coverage, collision insurance is not required by law.  However, if you do not have collision insurance and you rear-end someone, you will have to pay to fix the damages or replace your vehicle without any assistance from your insurance company.  Some people choose not to purchase collision coverage because it can be expensive and may not be worth it for older, less-expensive vehicles.  If your vehicle is financed, your lien holder may require you to have collision and comprehensive coverage .
