What is an SR-22?

Answer:
An SR-22 is a document that proves a person

is being financially responsible by having auto insurance. An SR-22 may be required if you have had a DUI, DWI, or DWAI. Or, if you are at-fault for an accident when you do not have insurance, if you have had your license suspended or revoked, or if you have had many tickets in a short amount of time.

A copy of the SR-22 must be kept on your person as well as sent to the state. Your insurance company should mail the copy to the state. This will usually add an amount to your insurance premium because the insurance company will have some extra paperwork. Even if you do not have a car, you may have to get liability insurance with an SR-22 to keep your license if the state decides that you need one.
