What are starter checks?

Answer:
When a customer opens a checking account at
a bank, he or she is given an account number, and a set of checks known as starter checks.  Starter checks have the customer’s account number as well as the routing number printed on them, but not the customer’s name, address, or any other information.

Because starter checks are lacking important personal information, many businesses refuse to accept them.  Others accept starter checks, but only for small amounts.  Most people who open checking accounts order pre-printed checks immediately or use checks from an alternate account instead of trying to find businesses that will accept starter checks.
